Former President Donald J. Trump endorsed Gov. Jim Justice of West Virginia for senator, in a race that’s broadly considered as a primary pickup alternative as Republicans search to reclaim management of the Senate.
Mr. Trump, in a publish on Fact Social on Wednesday night, praised Mr. Justice’s stances on points together with the southern border, vitality coverage and the economic system. “Huge Jim will likely be a Nice UNITED STATES SENATOR, and has my Full & Whole Endorsement. HE WILL NEVER LET YOU DOWN!!!” Mr. Trump wrote.
The endorsement was a blow to Consultant Alex Mooney, one other Republican working for the seat, whom Mr. Trump endorsed in his congressional race final 12 months.
Mr. Justice, a well-liked two-term governor, introduced his bid in April for the seat held by Senator Joe Manchin III, who’s seen as some of the susceptible Democrats dealing with re-election in 2024 as Democrats maintain the chamber by a good 51-49 margin. Mr. Trump gained West Virginia within the 2020 election by practically 40 proportion factors.

As Mr. Trump mounts his presidential bid, he has made few endorsements within the 2024 election cycle — a departure from the 2022 midterm cycle, when he endorsed a number of shedding candidates in vital swing states.
Along with supporting Mr. Justice, he has endorsed Kari Lake — who unsuccessfully ran for governor of Arizona along with his endorsement final 12 months — in her race for the seat held by Senator Kyrsten Sinema.
